The 3 Vehicle Service Items You Should Not Put Off

When it comes to vehicle service many people procrastinate because they don't want to spend the money, don't have time to get it done or it is not urgent. Does this sound familiar? There are three service items you shouldn't put off.

1.  Oil Change. Oil quietly does its job. You don't see it working or hear it working, but is the substance that keeps the metal parts in your vehicle working together and not fighting each other. It keeps things gliding smoothly and prevents wear and tear every second your engine is turned on. Don't put off changing it! Check with your Service Advisor and your owner's manual to find out how often it should be changed (It may be by distance you travel or time that goes by). You should also know which type of motor oil is best for your car. This generally means considering three things — the oil viscosity, whether to use synthetic versus non-synthetic oil and your car's mileage.

 2.  Tire Pressure. The proper amount of air in your tires is vital to your safety every second your vehicle is moving. Have your inflation pressures checked and the tread inspected regularly. If you own a newer vehicle, pay attention to that electronic tire pressure monitor. If it lights up, take it in right away.

 3.  Fluids Check. Fluids are the lifeblood of your vehicle. The big three are brake fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant. If any of these are low it could be a sign that there is a big problem. Running with low brake fluid could make your vehicle difficult to stop. Running with low transmission fluid could mean your gears could seize up. And running with low coolant could damage your engine from excessive heat. If you spot a leak, you may be able to identify the fluid by its color. This can help you and your mechanic determine where the leak is coming from. It can also help speed up the repair process.

These things may take a little time out of your day, but taking care of them before problems develop could save you from far more inconvenient, expensive, or even dangerous predicaments. Don't put them off. Speak with your Service Advisor at Eureka Brake & Automotive about your maintenance schedule.
